Yi-Guan Dao is devoted to preserving and promoting traditional Chinese culture and the moral teachings of ancient sages like Confucius and Mencius. With the mission to “revere Heaven and Earth, honor the divine, love and serve the nation, uphold virtue and propriety, and cultivate goodness for a harmonious world,” the faith was formally named in 1886 and has since spread to over 80 countries across five continents.
Fa-Yi Chong-De is a major branch of Yi-Guan Dao, founded in Taiwan by the Bodhisattva Chen Hong-Zhen. It now has 9 main temples in Taiwan, 7 overseas temples (in Japan, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Alor Setar, Thailand, Los Angeles, and Jakarta), and 17 Dao centers worldwide.
In 1994, Fa-Yi Chong-De began its mission in Greater Vancouver, founding its first family shrine. A temporary Dao center was established in 1998, and in 2000 it gained official status from the Canadian government. In 2005, the Chong-De Buddhist Hall in Richmond, BC, was completed and opened.
For over 20 years, the center has actively promoted moral education and community service in the Greater Vancouver area, guided by the principles of unity among religions, Confucian values, self-cultivation, and universal benevolence.
